Why the G beats a plain circle, for huggers

A g shaped maternity pillow is a closed curve with a tail inside it. Small detail on paper. Enormous difference at 3am. Here is why.

The G Cloud laid flat, showing its long side and its shorter inner leg
The tail folds into the centre of the G. It reaches you, so you never reach for it.

Do you fall asleep holding something? Then this shape was drawn for you.

If you cuddle a spare pillow every night, you know the routine. An arm goes over it, a knee hooks round it, and only then does sleep come. The trouble is that a loose pillow wanders, flattens, and abandons your bump and back completely. The G Cloud solves both halves at once. The outer curve carries your head, your back and your bump. The inner tail gives your arms and knees a proper anchor, right where they land naturally.

On an ordinary U shape, knee support lives at the far end of the pillow, and your legs go looking for it. The G curls that support inward instead. The tail sits in the middle of the shape, already between your knees, already under your arm. No hunting. No repositioning. Just squeeze.

1

A tail built for squeezingGenerously filled and slightly firmer than the outer ring, so a whole night of hugging does not crush it flat. Shake it in the morning and it bounces back.

2

Cloud grey velvet, zip-off coverThe full cover, tail included, unzips and can be washed, according to the manufacturer. The pale grey tone forgives daily use.

3

Springy polyester fillThe manufacturer lists a polyester filling with a fast rebound.

4

Light and carriableOne arm takes it from bedroom to sofa without a thought.

Two things to know upfront.

If it arrives compressed, give it time to plump fully. And it outlives the bump: fold the tail across your lap and the G becomes a feeding support, then a backrest, then the most fought-over reading spot in the house.

Three moves

How to settle into your G Cloud

No instructions to memorise. Curve, side, squeeze. Done by the time you finish a yawn.

Head settled on the upper bend of the g shaped pillow
1

Head on the top bend

Lie down and let the upper curve of the G take your head. It stands in for your usual pillow and keeps your neck happy.

Neck aligned

2

Back against the long side

Settle your back into the long outer edge. It carries your lower back and quietly discourages rolling flat.

3

Squeeze the tail

Pull the inner tail close. Knees either side, arm draped over the top. That squeeze is what sends huggers to sleep.

G Cloud questions, straight answers

What makes a G shape different from a U shape?
The tail. A U is an open loop: it wraps you, and knee support comes from its far end. A G closes the loop and folds a tail into the middle, so there is something to squeeze at the exact spot your arms and knees land. If hugging is how you fall asleep, the G earns its keep. If it is not, the classic Full Body U does the wraparound job for £11 less.
Who is the G Cloud actually for?
Sleepers who hold things. If you currently cuddle a spare cushion, drape a leg over your partner, or bunch up the duvet to have something in your arms, you are the target. The tail gives that habit a proper home while the outer curve looks after your bump, back and neck. It is the most enveloping pillow we sell.
Will it fit on a UK double bed?
It measures 170 × 70 cm laid out, so it takes just over half of a standard 135 cm double. The saving grace is that the tail curls inward rather than sprawling, so the footprint stays contained. On a king it is completely at home. If every centimetre of your bed is spoken for, the slimmer Bump Wing is the diplomatic option.
Will the tail go flat from all that hugging?
A night of squeezing compresses any filling. A quick morning shake restores its plumpness, the same way you plump a duvet. The manufacturer describes the filling as fast to rebound. A tail that stays flat is a fault, and the trial covers it.
How do I wash it?
Unzip the full cover, tail section included. The manufacturer says it can be washed but gives no temperature, so a gentle cool cycle is the careful choice. Hang it up to dry and keep it away from the tumble dryer and fabric softener, which dull the velvet pile. The filled inner core never goes in a machine: stand it near an open window occasionally and it stays fresh.
Does holding it all night get too warm?
Fair question, because a hugger touches more pillow than most sleepers. Velvet runs warmer than mesh, and your body only contacts part of the G at a time. On a genuinely hot night, loosen the hug and let just the tail do its job between your knees.
Is it useful once the baby arrives?
Very. Fold the tail across your lap and it becomes a feeding platform at a natural height, with the outer curve propping your lower back at the same time. During night feeds the whole G works as an armchair substitute in bed. Later, it still works as a reading nest.
It arrived squashed. How do I plump it up?
If it arrives compressed, work along the whole G, kneading and shaking each section, and give it time to draw in air and reach full volume. The tail benefits from an extra squeeze-and-release or two. Still flat after two days? Email us, because that is not how it should behave.
How heavy is it, and where do I store it?
Carrying it is easy: the challenge is bulk, not weight. During the day you can simply leave it made into the bed, where it looks rather smart in cloud grey. To stash it, fold the G in half at its opening, and it slots into a wardrobe shelf or a large vacuum storage bag.
Can I switch sides during the night?
Yes, with one small move. As you roll over, lift the tail across your body so it lands between your knees on the new side: the outer curve needs no adjusting at all.
I toss and turn a lot. G or U?
Honestly, it depends what your hands do. If you turn often and never hold anything, the Full Body U is the friction-free choice, since its two arms are interchangeable. If you turn often but always end up clutching something, the G wins, because the thing you clutch is also the thing supporting your knees. Restless huggers stay right here.
What if I want to return it?
Simple and shame-free. Any time within 90 nights of delivery, email us and say it is going back. We reply with the return steps within one working day, and once the pillow is on its way we refund your £34.49 in full. You only pay the return postage. The fine detail lives on our returns page.
