What is The Bump Lounger?

The Bump Lounger is a blow-up pregnancy pillow: an inflatable lounger with a circular hollow at its centre. Your bump rests inside the hollow while ribbed air chambers carry your weight, so it works as a front lying pregnancy pillow for a nap, a book or a massage. It inflates in minutes and is designed for daytime rests, not overnight sleep.

How the Bump Lounger works

One firm air mattress, one carefully shaped hole, and the position you have been missing since the second trimester. Here is what you are actually buying.

Top view of The Bump Lounger showing the central belly cradle and the raised head rest
170 cm of ribbed air support with a circular cradle at the middle. Your belly floats, everything else is held.

Missing lying on your front?

From around month four, front-lying quietly disappears from your life. Reading on your belly, stretching out on the grass, a proper back massage: all gone. Not because it is forbidden, but because a growing bump has nowhere to go on a flat surface. The Bump Lounger gives it somewhere to go. A circular hollow sits at the centre of the mattress. Your belly rests inside it, while the ribbed chambers spread your weight across your chest, hips and legs.

Because the support is air, you decide how firm it feels. Fill it hard for stretching. Soften it slightly for a long read. The tapered walls of the hollow adapt as your bump grows week by week.

One honest caveat before you buy.

This is a lounger for rests of an hour or two, not a bed. For all-night support, look at our sleep pillows instead.

Front-lying in pregnancy

Can you lie on your front when pregnant?

On a flat surface, lying on your front becomes uncomfortable as the bump grows, simply because the bump has nowhere to go. A front lying pregnancy pillow changes the shape of the surface, not your body: the hollow takes the bump, and the air chambers take your weight.

Whether front-lying rests suit you is a question for your midwife or GP, not for a shop. The NHS guidance we check against is about going to sleep: it says the safest position to go to sleep is on your side, left or right. It gives no rule on lying on your front for a short daytime rest. That is why we sell the Bump Lounger for rests of an hour or two, never for the night.

Ready in minutes

From box to belly-down in three steps

No assembly, no instructions to lose. Pump it up, climb on, tweak the air. Done.

1

Pump it firm

Connect any standard inflator to the valve. Stop when the ribs feel firm and the surface sits flat. Around three minutes with an electric pump.

Pump not included
2

Lower your bump into the cradle

Kneel beside the lounger, lean forward on your hands, and ease yourself down so your belly settles into the hollow. Head and arms go on the raised end.

3

Fine-tune the air

Too firm at the hips? Let a short puff of air out. Sinking a little? Add one. A few seconds at the valve makes it exactly yours.

Why mums love it

Four things a flat mattress cannot give you

Every one of them starts with the same idea: take the bump out of the equation.

Face down, bump in the hollow

Your bump rests in a hollow of its own. The manufacturer does not publish its size.

The massage position, unlocked

Back rubs are hard to enjoy sitting up. On the lounger your whole back is open, shoulders to hips, while you lie relaxed. Hand your partner the massage oil and stay there a while.

Naps, books and gentle stretches

Prop your chin on the head rest with a novel, or use the stable surface for the gentle stretches your body is asking for.

The Bump Lounger packed flat next to a suitcase, ready for a holiday

It goes on holiday with you

Open the valves and it presses down to a flat 1.5 kg bundle, about the size of a rolled bath towel. Babymoon, weekend at your mum's, garden in July: pump it up wherever you land.

Bump Lounger questions, honest answers

Is it safe to lie on my stomach while pregnant?
On a flat surface, front-lying becomes uncomfortable and impractical as the bump grows. The lounger changes the geometry: the cradle gives your bump a hollow of its own. We are a shop, not a clinic, so we will not tell you what is safe here: ask your own midwife about front-lying rests, and follow what she says. That said, every pregnancy is different. If you feel dizzy or uncomfortable, roll off and rest on your side instead, where The Body Bolster can tuck under the belly. And check with your midwife if you are unsure.
What is a blow-up pregnancy pillow?
It is a pregnancy pillow you fill with air instead of fibre or foam. The Bump Lounger is one: an air mattress of about 170 × 65 cm with a circular hollow for your bump, a flocked top and a heavy-duty PVC base. You set the firmness at the valve, and it folds flat to about 1.5 kg once deflated. It needs a standard pump, which is not in the box.
Can I use it as a front lying pregnancy pillow at night?
No. It is made for rests of an hour or two in the daytime, not for sleeping through the night. The NHS says the safest position to go to sleep is on your side, left or right. For the night, a side-sleeping pillow such as The Full Body U is the one to look at. If you have questions about your own sleep position, ask your midwife.
Up to which trimester can I use it?
The tapered cradle is designed to adapt as the bump grows. There is no fixed cut-off week: comfort is the guide. In the third trimester we do suggest mentioning it to your midwife at a routine appointment, and keeping sessions shorter. The moment it stops feeling lovely, that is your body's answer.
Does an inflatable feel cold or squeaky?
Bare PVC would, which is why the top is flocked with a brushed, suede-feel coating. It sits warmer against skin and stays quiet when you move. In a chilly room, throw a towel or a thin blanket over the surface and it feels like upholstered furniture. The air inside also warms to your body within a few minutes.
What happens if it gets a puncture?
The base is heavy-duty PVC, the same class of material as quality airbeds, so normal use on floors, beds and lawns will not trouble it. Keep it away from sharp jewellery, pet claws and rough concrete. If the worst happens, any standard PVC repair patch from a pound shop fixes a small hole in minutes. And if a seam ever fails within your trial period, contact us and we will put it right.
What is the maximum user weight?
Our supplier does not publish a maximum user weight, so we do not quote one. It is made of PVC. If you have any doubt, write to us before ordering.
Is a pump included in the box?
No, and we would rather tell you now than surprise you later. The valve fits any standard inflator: an electric airbed pump fills it in about three minutes, a foot pump or hand pump in a little longer. If you own anything that inflates a paddling pool or an airbed, you are already equipped. Lungs alone are not recommended: it is a big volume.
Should I use it on the floor or on the bed?
Both work. A carpeted floor or a rug gives the steadiest, firmest feel, which suits stretching. On the bed it feels softer overall and is easier to get down onto in late pregnancy. Avoid slippery hard tiles without a rug underneath, simply so the lounger stays put while you climb on.
How do I clean it?
A damp sponge with a drop of mild soap wipes the whole surface in under a minute, which is one of the quiet joys of PVC over fabric. No zips, no washing machine, no waiting for a cover to dry. Just make sure it is completely dry before you deflate and fold it, so no moisture gets trapped in storage.
What if I order it and end up disappointed?
Then it costs you nothing but the return postage. The 90-Night Better Sleep Trial applies to the lounger exactly as it does to our pillows: use it properly, decide at your own pace, and if it falls short, one email brings a full £54.49 refund. The step-by-step process is on the returns page.

3
